In October 2005 Mikhail Khodorkovsky was sent to a Siberian penal colony almost 4,000 miles from Moscow, in an area known for its uranium mining and processing. Just over a year later he was transferred to the pre-trial detention centre in Chita where he is currently being held. His experience in both penitentiary facilities is documented, as are repeated applications to the local courts.
